About Us
McCallum Heat Pumps was established in 2007 to extend the application of new high temperature heat pump technology. It was registered as a New Zealand private company in April 2008. It is wholly New Zealand owned.
Central to its products is the ability to maximize the enthalpy return from a standard heat pump cycle of compression/condensation and evaporation. While working within manufacturers' pressure envelopes for compressors and heat exchangers, advantage has been take of the high superheat temperatures available from environmentally friendly refrigerant R134a. Product temperatures routinely exceed the working fluid condensation temperature. Its efficiency also means that for lower temperature applications, its Coefficient of Performance (COP) exceeds that of other systems on the market.
The technology is covered by US Patent 6,729,151 B, NZ Patent 518411 and AUS Patent 768964. It has been widely applied to heat recovery from dairy and food processing applications, but through McCallum is now available to residential applications and heat recovery from industry.
The Patentee, Peter Thompson, continues to consult and have design input in current McCallum projects. These projects include ground source space heating, domestic water heating, new food processing heat recovery needs, large commercial installations (shopping complexes) and heat usage from telecommunications buildings.
